Plants of Concern Training Workshop Registration

These free workshops require pre-registration, and are held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You will learn monitoring skills or refresh your skills for the new season. New volunteers are required to attend one workshop, and we ask any monitors who have never been to a workshop to attend.

Workshops provide:

  • An introduction to Plants of Concern, a rare plant monitoring program that has been funded by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the US Forest Service (Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie), Openlands, the Cook County Forest Preserves, the USEPA (GLRI),  Garden Club of America and the Volunteer Stewardship Network.
  • Training in the basics of monitoring techniques, including outdoor activities in measuring and mapping populations and using a GPS unit.
  • A chance to meet landowner representatives who will present monitoring opportunities. Monitoring positions are available throughout NE Illinois and NW Indiana.
  • An opportunity to meet seasoned monitors who will share their experiences.
What else do I need to know?
  • Bring a lunch.  Dress for the weather and for outdoor activities. Morning refreshments are served.   
  • A confirmation will be sent after registration and directions will follow shortly before workshop date.
